At the end of August we had family in town and took them to lake Huvsgul (Khuvsgul). This is the biggest lake in Mongolia (by volume) and it’s amazingly blue. Earlier this year I went to the south end of the lake as part of an outreach trip, which was beautiful, but because it was so snowy I didn’t really see much of the actual lake.
This area in Mongolia is also known for being home to Tsaatan people, who are an extremely small ethnic group in Mongolia that herd reindeer. Our camp had some standard gers, but we opted to stay in a traditional Tsaatan orts, which is a tipi (teepee?). Seemed the same as staying in a ger, but they are so tall Tom could stand up straight.
